17-year-old Ming Wen’s* life is marked by many challenges. His mother, the sole breadwinner, is supporting a family of 6 including his 3 siblings and grandmother. He sees his mother’s constant struggles with paying bills, putting food on the table and her anxiety from debts that kept mounting. Ming Wen has taken on part-time work to ease his mother’s load since he was 13 years old.

With help from the MWS Family Development Programme (FDP), his mother has been receiving guidance and support in clearing her debts of everyday living. Ming Wen’s mother is finally able to see light at the end of the tunnel and even save for the future.

At MWS, we serve over 22,000 people, including families, those who are very ill, lonely, or homeless, as well as children and youth who need help and support. Like Ming Wen, there are children and youths who live in the shadow of poverty but show incredible resilience and determination far beyond their years.
