How Empowering Xavier's Family Made the Difference
Only in his early 20s, Xavier and his family face a lifetime of challenges. Xavier began suffering from seizures at just 18 months old, which only intensified as time went on. He has severe autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and epilepsy.
Out of concern for his safety, his mother Steph decided to withdraw him from school to care for him full-time at home.
Subsequently, both Steph and her husband were retrenched from their jobs. They resorted to taking out loans to fund the family’s daily expenses and Xavier’s mounting medical bills.
Overwhelmed with keeping the family afloat while caring for Xavier, Steph made the painful decision of sending her eldest daughter to live with her grandmother for 6 years. The years apart still cast a long lingering shadow over their relationship.

As Xavier grew older and bigger, it became harder and harder for Steph to manage on her own. Steph often found herself in need of external medical support for Xavier which added to the financial strain on the family.
Realising that she could no longer cope with caring for Xavier on her own, Steph began searching for alternative care arrangements and found MWS Bethany Nursing Home – Choa Chu Kang (MWS BNH).
MWS BNH became Xavier’s sanctuary and his extended family, ensuring that he receives comprehensive and individualised care, 24/7. He is also actively and meaningfully engaged in games and physical therapy to improve his social and physical well-being.

For Steph, seeing Xavier well cared for gave her much needed relief and peace of mind. She and her husband are able to focus on working to support the family and spending more time with their two young daughters.
“As a full-time caregiver, I had to make sacrifices that brought numerous challenges to my family. With MWS’ help, I am now able to focus my attention on securing a better future for my family.”
