The Invisible Caregiver - Ms Kan's Caregiving Journey
For loved ones who can no longer care for themselves, many like Ms Kan, will take it upon themselves to care for them. While some may seek resources to better prepare themselves, many may have no choice but to dive into it. Ms Kan is one of the latter.
Soon, she found herself handling crises on a regular basis. A fall, a surgery and most of all, changes to a life that has become unfamiliar and unsettling. To add to her challenges, she is an only child with no siblings to turn to for support.

“Some friends told me I was being foolish for not thinking about myself and my acreer. I never imagined having to give up my full-time career to focus on my family, but it was a decision I had to make.”
– Ms Kan
As the caring load intensified, Ms Kan finally realised she could not do it alone. She admitted her parents to MWS Nursing Home – Yew Tee. In addition to getting 24/7 care from a team of nursing, therapy and medical professionals for her parents, she benefitted from the support of MWS Caregivers’ Club. She was introduced to educational talks, hands-on workshops, and most importantly, a caregiver community that shares her pain, worries, and experiences.

“The Home runs engagement activities and care for my mum and dad that I could never do at home. I am grateful to have more time for myself. I am grateful to have more time for myself, to read, sing, and catch up with friends. it feels good to find myself again.”
– Ms Kan
